Deacons Step Up to Help Challenged Youth Enjoy America's Pastime

SUGAR LAND, Texas (March 8) -- For the fourth year in a row, the Deacons of Deadwood Motorcycle Club helped the Dream League continue its mission of "Making Dreams Come True" with a large donation during Opening Day festivities, Feb. 27, at First Colony Park.Established in 2007, the Dream League competes in the Challenger Division of First Colony Little League. Currently, more than 100 physically and/or intellectually challenged youngsters play in the Dream League, supported by more than 150 teenaged "Angels in the Outfield," who give of their time to play alongside the Dream Leaguers.Community volunteers fill out the roles of Dream League board members, managers, coaches, and umpires, but financial donations are needed to keep the entire program moving forward.That's where Deacons of Deadwood got involved, with president Geoff Seaman, charity committee representatives Mike Arabucki and Fred Tyler, and several members of the all-volunteer motorcycle club presenting Dream League head Bruce Hicks with a check for $5,000."I'll tell you, this is a motorcycle club you want to know," Hicks said. "They are dedicated to supporting children charities. We couldn't be happier to have them as our major sponsor again this year. We appreciate everything the Deacons of Deadwood have done these last four years. This means a lot to us."Deacons of Deadwood is a Houston motorcycle club with a diverse membership consisting of top corporate executives and blue-collar workers bonded by a love of motorcycles and donating their time and talents to bettering their community. Formed more than 14 years ago, Deacons of Deadwood is a registered 501(c)(3) charity."We're honored to help," Seaman said. "To witness the fun these kids are having and see firsthand the opportunities the Dream League is giving these young people is a fantastic experience for our membership."Last year our contribution helped the players attend the Little League World Series and play in an exhibition game in South Williamsport (Pa.). We're very proud to have had a part in that special event."Deacons of Deadwood has several more checks to present this spring, but Seaman admits this one might be hard to top."When we rode up on our bikes and joined the ceremony, I was pulled aside by a young man who took this really nice Harley-Davidson watch off of his wrist and said, 'For all you guys are doing, I want to give you this watch,' " Seaman said. "I promised him we would put the watch up for auction at our next charity ball in September. It's humbling when you think you're there to help others and someone steps up to contribute to what we're doing. That's what the Deacons of Deadwood are all about and the impression we hope to leave wherever we go."
