Remembering Tommy "The Snake" Cason - Deacon 021

Tommy joined the Deacons during its first year, and other than our founding Members, he was the fourth longest serving Member when he died.Tommy spent most of his life in Pasadena, Texas. When he was very young, he would make money shining shoes, and later mowing lawns. He graduated from Pasadena High school when he was only 16 years old, and he immediately entered into a four year masonry apprenticeship . By the time he was 21, he had his own masonry contracting company, which he operated for the rest of his life.Tommy loved the ladies and the ladies loved him.. He sure wasn’t shy. Even his past girlfriends and ex-wives remained good friends to him.Tommy had been sick for quite some time before being diagnosed with throat cancer. His throat was so constricted that he could barely swallow. When he found his inability to swallow was due to throat cancer, he was scared, but faced it with a determination to beat it.Predictions of Tommy’s demise were often and always premature. It seemed like he had three months to live every three months for the last three years. He was like the guy in the old joke “My doctor gave me three months to live. I told the doctor I didn’t have the money to pay him, so the doctor gave me three more months.”Tommy faced death with the same quiet dignity that defined his life. That is the mark of his character. He was one of the most loved members of our Club.
