Deacons of Deadwood M/C Serve Breakfast to Armed Forces Participating in HLSR Parade
HOUSTON (March 5) -- For the fifth straight year, the Deacons of Deadwood Motorcycle Club served breakfast to United States Marine Corps and Army personnel participating in Saturday's Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo parade.A total of 35 members of the charitable M/C roared into downtown Houston bright and early on their America n-made motorcycles to fortify the troops before they marched in the annual parade, which kicks off the world famous rodeo. Frank Demeris and the staff of Charlie's Catering assisted in the food preparation and serving to the appreciative group of Marines, Army soldiers and several members of the HLSR Armed Forces Committee."This all started five years ago when we found out these young men and women, that serve our country with honor, were pretty much on their own as far as getting a bite to eat and a cup of coffee before marching in the parade," said Deacons of Deadwood event organizer John "Rocket" Aubrey. "We have several Deacons that serve on various committees for the rodeo and after conversations with them we decided we wanted to jump in and do something as a group."Through an anonymous member of the club, all expenses for the breakfast have been covered ever since, and the event has grown exponentially each year."The first year there was one committeeman from the HLSR on hand to see what we were doing," Aubrey said. "This year there are more than 20. They have really embraced our motorcycle club and are so fun to work with throughout the process. The Houston police also were very good to us and we thank them for their help."It's pretty easy to support these Marines and soldiers. They are wonderful young people, truly the pride of our country, and with several former military members within the ranks of the Deacons of Deadwood, this breakfast has become something very special to all of us."The Deacons of Deadwood M/C boasts a diverse membership of executives, businessmen, military veterans and blue-collar workers bonded by a love of motorcycles and donating their time and talents to bettering their community.
